Fourth of July on Saint Simons Island: The Complete Guide
Saint Simons Sunday Parade, pier fireworks, family-friendly events, and how to avoid the traffic on Independence Day.
Saint Simons does the Fourth of July well. It's big enough to feel like a real celebration and small enough that you're never fighting crowds. Here's the playbook.
The parade (morning)
The Sunday Parade runs down Mallery Street through Pier Village, usually starting at 10am. It's classic small-town stuff: decorated golf carts, a high school marching band, kids on bikes with streamers. Stake out a spot on the curb 30 minutes before.
The day (bike around, beach, eat)
Most guests spend the afternoon at the beach. East Beach is the obvious call โ there's room for everyone. Bring water and sunscreen; the lifeguards are out.
Pier Village gets lively in the late afternoon. Plan dinner for 5pm or 8pm โ 6 and 7 are chaos.
The fireworks (night)
Fireworks launch from the pier around 9pm. The best viewing spots, in order:
- Neptune Park on the ground right in front of the pier โ it's the full experience.
- Massengale Park โ same view, a little quieter.
- The pier itself โ crowded but iconic.
- East Beach โ you'll see them, smaller.
Traffic logistics (important)
The F.J. Torras Causeway backs up badly after fireworks โ 30 to 60 minutes to get off the island. If you're staying with us at Salty Dog, you'll already be home before the crowd starts moving. This is the single biggest reason to rent on-island for the Fourth.
