When to Visit Saint Simons Island: A Seasonal Guide

What each month on Saint Simons Island actually feels like — weather, crowds, pricing, and what to plan around.

People ask us when the best time to visit Saint Simons is. The honest answer: it depends on what you want out of the trip. Here's what each season looks like.

Spring (March–May)

Probably our favorite window. Azaleas bloom early, the marsh turns green, ocean temperatures start to warm, and the summer crowds haven't arrived. You can still get a table at any restaurant without a reservation. Mid-70s by day, cool at night.

Book for: a romantic getaway, a family spring break, serious birding.

Early summer (June)

School's out but it hasn't spiked yet. Beaches are full but not overflowing. Humidity is manageable.

Peak summer (July–August)

Hot, humid, and full. The village is busy, waits at restaurants are long, and the beaches are lively. It's still beautiful. If this is when you can travel, just plan ahead: reservations for dinner, pick a beach time before 11 or after 4, and embrace the afternoon siesta.

Book for: big family trips, kids who want the full beach experience.

Fall (September–November)

The local secret. After Labor Day the island empties out, the humidity breaks, and ocean temperatures stay swimmable through October. November brings cool sunny days and our favorite fishing.

Book for: an adults-only trip, a work-from-anywhere week, the real Saint Simons.

Winter (December–February)

Quiet and cozy. Days can be beautifully sunny and 65 degrees; nights dip into the 40s. Most restaurants stay open. You won't be swimming, but you'll have empty beaches and shrimp that's just been landed.

Book for: quiet retreats, extended stays, holidays.

The calendar to plan around

  • Memorial Day weekend — first big weekend of the year. Book three months out.
  • Fourth of July — fills by February most years.
  • Labor Day — less crazy than Memorial Day.
  • Georgia-Florida weekend (late October) — Jacksonville-adjacent, Saint Simons gets busy.
  • Sea Island resort guest weekends — watch for these; dinner reservations evaporate.
